Saab is a Swedish aviation and defense founded in 1937 in Linköping. His name was an acronym for Svenska Aeroplan AB, where AB refers to Aktiebolag (in Swedish limited liability company) and was written as a SAAB. Since changes in the leadership of the company in 1990, the current name is Saab AB.
