Acura is a brand used by the Japanese car manufacturer Honda in the United States, Canada and Hong Kong since March 1986, to attack the market for luxury cars and semi-luxury. The brand was introduced in Mexico in 2004 and China in 2006. It also plans to introduce Acura to the Japanese domestic market in 2008. With the Acura brand, Honda takes the lead in being the first Japanese luxury car market outside Japan. Before Acura, cars exported from Japan were primarily designed for consumers and economically affordable.
